Owning a firearm is associated with great responsibility. In Poland a gun permit is issued only to persons who show that they need it. Such a permit is granted on the basis of an administrative decision, which specifies the purpose of the weapon. Various types of pistols and rifles can be used for, among other things, collecting, personal defence, hunting and sporting purposes. The most important issue is the effective securing of weapons. The Weapons and Ammunition Act and the Regulation of the Minister of the Interior on the storage, carrying and registration of weapons and ammunition clearly stipulate that the owner of an armament must have a safe of at least class S1 at home.
Safety classes of gun safes
If you are considering which gun safe to buy, you should first familiarise yourself with the security classes of safes. Most newly minted firearms owners wonder which S1 safe to choose. Unfortunately, not everyone knows that this resistance class according to the Polish and European standard (PN-EN 1143-1) is the lowest.
Safety classes of safes are regulated by three standards:
● PN-EN 14450,
● PN-EN 1143-1,
● PN-EN 1143-2.
According to these, safes may have the following classes: S1, S2, 0, I, II, III, IV, V, VI, VII, VIII. Safes above class IV are actually vaults used in banks.
When considering which gun safe to buy, it is worth considering class S2, 0 or even I. It is not only about security, but also about the limit of the protected value. For example, in an S1 class safe this limit is around 60,000 PLN. If you have weapons, ammunition and sights with a higher value, the insurance company will only insure your property if you have an armoured cabinet with a higher class.
Many gun owners are increasingly opting to buy an armoured sash of class S2 or 0. They are mindful that the regulations on gun storage rules may be tightened. If the regulation changes, they will not have to buy a new safe.

Which handgun safe to choose?
Wondering which handgun safe to choose? You already know what resistance class it should have, so only the technical parameters remain. You do not need a large armoured wardrobe to store a pistol or revolver. If you are only going to store one weapon, it is better to invest in something small and unobtrusive. Wall-mounted safes are becoming more and more popular, but this solution is best suited when you are still at the stage of house construction and can carefully plan the location of the safe.
A short gun safe should have additional shelves for ammunition and documents. A very important issue is the appropriate gun holders. Of course, no one forbids you to simply put your gun on a safe shelf, but for your own convenience and safety, you can order a special rack adapted to a particular model of weapon.
You can also store other valuables or cash in a gun safe. If you are going to buy a universal armoured cabinet, think about what else you will want to protect. It may be worth buying a larger model, in which you can hide jewellery, among other things.
Which long gun safe?
Before deciding which long gun safe to choose, consider how many weapons you want to own in the future. Perhaps you only have one rifle or shotgun for now. In time, you will probably decide to buy something new, but at the same time you will not want to part with the previous model.
By choosing an armoured cupboard with several places, you can be sure that it will last for at least a few years. Don't forget the extra space for your weapon sights. Gun optics do not need to be stored in a safe, but they are expensive equipment and it is worth keeping them in a safe place. An extra internal cupboard for ammunition and documents will also be convenient.
Armoured display case for collectible weapons
If you still haven't made up your mind which safe to buy for your small and long firearms, then think about an armoured cabinet for collector's models. Such a cabinet equipped with toughened glass effectively protects the weapon and at the same time gives you the opportunity to admire each specimen without having to take it out of the cabinet.
Both revolvers and richly decorated models of hunting weapons are beautifully presented in the armoured cabinet. The inner lighting of the cabinet and the interior lining with decorative cloth make the weapons look as if they were on exclusive display.
You can also keep your white weapons in the armoured display case. Sabres, swords, knives and other antiques can be kept safe and decorate your living room at the same time.
The most important consideration when choosing a gun safe is the security class. Although the legislator only requires a security class S1, you should consider a better safe. Don't forget about the lock as well. It too must be certified and have a certain burglary resistance class.
