5 reasons why you can trust safes in hotels
You can, of course, check us out, but rest assured that a properly managed hotel room safe by the staff will do its job very well. Hotel safes are devices that we as guests will be able to use safely if hotel managers follow the right procedures.
Changing the master code should be something completely natural. As the author of the aforementioned article published by Niebezpiecznik.pl aptly points out, if a guest changes the factory master code in a safe, the hotelier will not be able to open it in an emergency, and more importantly, will not be able to absolve himself of responsibility. We change computer codes, card PINs, login credentials – the same principle applies to safes. What makes you believe that your belongings in a hotel are safe? Here are 5 pieces of evidence to support this
There are quite a few posts on the web revealing "master" codes for hotel safes. Some time ago, the Niebezpiecznik.pl web portal published a video of a Hartmann Tresore HS 420-02 hotel safe installed in a room of one of Warsaw hotels. A journalist of the portal filmed the opening of the safe with the so-called "master code", which, against our advice, had not been changed at the hotel before the safe was made available to guests.
The owner of the property receives a manual from us recommending that the factory "mastercode" should be changed. An article entitled "Don't trust safes in hotels" also appeared on the above mentioned portal. We would like to thank the author for publicising the problem and motivating hotel owners to change the master codes - not only in their own interest, but above all for the safety of their guests.
