What if a safe is flooded with water? The optimum location for a safe is a dry room with, as far as possible, a constant temperature. We advise that deep, damp basements with no ventilation or heating should be avoided, as well as laundries, drying rooms, all locations where high humidity can affect the safe for long periods of time.

This is especially crucial for devices with electronic components such as electronic locks, biometric locks, alarm panels, rotomats or lighting - moisture also adversely affects the varnish and internal mechanisms of the safe. When choosing a location for the safe, it is essential to ensure that there are no water pipes running through the site, the intrusion of which could lead to flooding of the room and damage to the safe.

What happens to the safe in the event of flooding with fire extinguishing liquids?

Safes are usually installed in small rooms. Even a small fire in such conditions rapidly raises the air temperature, in which case the seal surrounding the door of the safe immediately swells and seals the entire structure, preventing heat from penetrating into the interior. This is an irreversible process and the safe becomes resistant to fire but also to water and firefighting fluids to which it is exposed during a firefighting operation.

Is a fireproof safe a good choice?

The obvious function of a safe is to resist a burglar but fortuitous events such as fire happen even more frequently than attempted burglaries. Safes with certified fire resistance provide a versatile and complete solution for many years.

Which fireproof safe to choose?

Fire resistance according to the European standard EN 1047-1 is certified:

  • • S60P and S120P (60 and 120 minutes) for paper documents,
  • • S60DIS and S120DIS (60 and 120 minutes) for electronic data media.

Safes with these parameters are available in burglary protection classes S2 according to EN 14450 as well as I and II according to EN 1043-1.
