Military units, sensitive facilities, government offices, financial institutions and even some private companies may be at risk from a terrorist attack. Blast-proof armoured doors are a professional protection which makes it possible to avoid the effects of such an attack without incurring losses, protecting the contents of a vault or premises even in the event of a powerful explosion.
When is it worth installing an blast-proof armoured door?
Always when the protected contents could become a potential target for a terrorist attack or burglary. We are talking about public and government institutions, places where secret documents (including technologies), strategically or politically important materials are stored, and objects or substances whose passage into the wrong hands could cause chaos or tragedy (weapons, explosives, flammable materials, biological and chemical agents that could pose a threat to society).
The aim of a terrorist attack is to create chaos or obtain the means to create a sense of threat and intimidation. For this reason, it is particularly important to prevent such activity, especially now that we are seeing an increased risk of terrorist attacks across Europe. It is also worth remembering that people or institutions considered to be neutral are often the targets of terrorist attacks (in this way terrorism creates a sense of threat and chaos). Hence, there is often a need to strengthen security also in places where seemingly such a threat should not appear – newspaper editorial offices, transport hubs, economic centres.
How does a blast-proof armoured door work?
A typical armoured door is a reinforced construction and specialised locks that allow the door to be opened from both the outside and the inside. They are offered in fire and bullet resistant versions in classes El 60, El 30 and C. The anti-explosion armoured doors are made of steel and reinforced concrete and equipped with a central locking mechanism. They can close automatically upon the occurrence of a specific event, as well as be closed manually. This type of door can be custom-made and can reach a size of a dozen or even several dozen metres. They then weigh tens or even hundreds of tonnes and protect aircraft hangars and even submarine docks.

How high is the resistance of explosion-proof armoured doors?
The resistance of armoured doors is measured by simulating an explosion and analysing the direction of the shock wave. Good quality ones must be able to withstand an adequate blast overpressure load directed directly towards their front and reflected pressure. The best explosion-proof doors are tested in military laboratories to give full assurance of resistance. This is done by applying a pressure to the object which is comparable to the detonation of a certain amount of explosive charge. Hartmann Tresore's HBD series explosion-proof armoured doors were tested under simulated explosion conditions with a 755 kg TNT charge at a distance of less than 21 m from the door, in an open area.
