Electronic equipment and valuable files are a real bargain for thieves. Not only do they have high material value, but they often contain confidential information that should not fall into the wrong hands. To keep them safe, you need to store them in a safe.
Files in danger
Just a few years ago few people thought about data storage safety, and Poland was one of the countries where this awareness was the lowest. Small carriers or devices, such as tablets or external disks, can store large amounts of information, which are often crucial for the future and the operations of companies. However, access to them was rarely difficult. As many as 83% of employees in Poland declared that they use USB flash drives without the knowledge and consent of their superiors. But 62% perceived the danger of losing sensitive data[1]. Today, companies have advanced security systems in place, and records are stored in multiple ways, both on media and in virtual clouds and servers. This information, which is archived and physically held in offices, requires special attention and security. However, there are ways to effectively protect it.
Safe for data carriers
In companies where files are the most valuable asset, it is worthwhile installing a safe adapted to their special needs. Magnetic data carriers are extremely sensitive to external factors such as heat and humidity. In addition, potential theft or destruction during a break-in can have dire legal and financial consequences. To avoid these consequences, media such as CDs, DVDs or streamer tapes should be stored in data media safes designed for this purpose. These are usually free-standing models in various burglary protection classes (S 2 or I, II, III according to PN-EN 1143-1) and fire resistance (S 60 DIS, S 120 DIS according to PN-EN 1047-1). Their interior is tailored to the type of media, which further helps organise files.
Protect your information and privacy
However, this is not only a problem for businesses, but also for the data we store in our homes. These often have sentimental value and concern privacy, which we particularly want to protect from outsiders. To secure this kind of information, however, it is not enough to transfer it from the computer to another medium. It is important to remember that thieves target properties whose owners they have observed for a long time. Therefore, they know where and what to look for. To avoid becoming a victim of crime, you need to protect yourself well. To safely store electronics, it is best to choose a safe with a small size, which can be successfully hidden and anchored in furniture, for example in a cupboard or a desk. In addition, it is worth choosing a fire-resistant model. You can then be sure that keepsakes or valuable records will not be lost in the event of a fire.
