Although burglar-proof safes and fire safes are instinctively associated with the storage of money and documents, there are cases, not uncommon at all, where security needs to be ensured for unusual items. There are safes designed for special tasks; today we will review our range for the most interesting cases.

Safes for long guns

Safes designed for the storage of firearms are undergoing a renaissance of interest, thanks to changes in legislation that came into force a few years ago. In place of the archaic Weapons and Ammunition Storage Act, under which you could store your firearms and ammunition in any actual metal box as long as it had a 'certified lock', a law came into force requiring firearms owners to deposit their firearms in safes of at least class S1 according to EN 14450.

To our slight amusement, this has resulted in the fact that for many customers, who previously knew just nothing about safes, the obligation to use S1 class cabinets has elevated this class to the status of an unknown security measure. This is clearly not the case: S1 is the lowest possible class and we try to offer product groups with a more advanced structure, and we have quite a few of these on offer.

There is a huge range of long gun cabinets, and the offer includes the most commonly purchased S1s, as well as glazed showcases in S2, 0 and I class, and even fireproof safes adapted to the storage of weapons.

Flammable material cabinets

Although not strictly burglar-proof, fireproof cabinets for the safe storage of hazardous, flammable or volatile materials such as lubricants, varnishes, paints or alcohol-based substances have recently become very popular product groups. In a word, anything that can catch fire or explode.

A subcategory of this type of product are fireproof cabinets for the storage of lithium and lithium-ion accumulators, which insulate the contents not only against ignition from the outside, but also against an uncontrolled fire inside the cabinet.

In both cases, there is an opportunity to connect the cabinet to the ventilation system of the building, but if for some reason this is not possible, we have the option of ordering a special filter overlay so that the cabinet operates autonomously and does not need to be connected to anything.

Safes for jewellery, collectibles, watches

More often than not, a thief is tempted by valuables such as jewellery, as these items are small, lightweight, easy to hide and their value is huge. Therefore, if you have a jewellery collection, but also, for example, numismatic items, small collector's specimens or even collectible firearms, you may want to check out products equipped with suitable drawers or compartments for storing them.

Depending on which size items you want to keep inside, you can personalise the interior quite freely. Most often, safes that store jewellery or coins have an interior made of veneer upholstered with alcantara. Firstly, it is easier to tailor such an interior to the customer's expectations. Secondly, it simply looks nicer and much more exclusive.

A separate story is with watch safes. The more expensive ones, which require storage in a safe, are generally battery-free devices that operate based on the movement of the wearer's wrist. If such a watch is left motionless, it will have to be re-wound after a few days. A solution to this dilemma are watch winders, which rotate watches in predefined cycles during storage. Such watch winders can be built into the interior of the safe, which not only looks beautiful but is also functional. Depending on the customer's preference, watch winders can be mains or battery powered.

Museum specimen safes

Sometimes it happens that a standard safe finds an unusual application.

One example is a safe for storing firearms, which, because of its proportions (external dimensions rather tall and narrow) and the handles on the back wall, would be ideal as a container for maps that one cartographic museum has bought. The rolled maps take the form of long and rather narrow tubes that fit into the handles. A similar application was found in one Jewish community, where fireproof safes were used to store Torah scrolls – Judaism's holy book. Fireproof safes are offered to museums very often precisely because of the documents from times gone by that are stored there.

Fireproof safes have a range of 30 to 120 minutes to protect the contents from the effects of fire.

However, the most interesting example was a glass cabinet in which one museum decided to store a mummy. We attached an apparatus to the cabinet to ensure proper air circulation and air quality, so that neither thief nor time can attack the mummy.

Data carrier safe

While storing valuables is intuitive, storing information is less obvious. Meanwhile, more and more companies and institutions are digitalising their assets to save space and ensure the longevity and security of their data.

As a result, there are fireproof safes with an even more restrictive design, which are designed to protect very fragile and temperature-sensitive electronic data carriers: disks, LTO tapes, memory sticks, from being burned or even damaged.
