Some time ago we wrote about unusual places where a safe or a safe deposit box can be placed. And where do we most often place professional devices of this type?

1. The safe behind a painting

This is one of the most popular places known from almost every crime film. However, in order for it to make sense to place a device behind a painting, it is necessary to design such a place already at the stage of building construction. A "ghost safe" with a double bottom, which protects real valuables and valuables, is ideal for use as a wall safe.

Wall safes are mounted in a load-bearing wall which is thick enough to accommodate a safe deposit box. But you can't just drill a hole into a supporting wall – it has to retain its structural properties. In an existing building, the placement of a safe in the supporting wall requires expert assessment. The best way to install a wall safe in an existing building is to use an existing niche, wall cavity, etc., which can be bricked up or enlarged, leaving only the opening for the safe. However, this is quite expensive, so we recommend that you consider installing a free-standing safe if the walls are not thick enough.

2. The safe under the desk

Usually in the form of a narrow, pull-out shelf or locker. These are usually small safes, designed for storing particularly valuable keys, documents and data carriers. They do not accommodate jewellery or cash. The doors and internal shelves of these safes can slide out like drawers, which makes them easy to use in limited space – you can place the safe right up against a wall without having to worry about the angle at which the door opens.

3. The safe in a cupboard

Attached to the back wall of a heavy wardrobe (and often also anchored to the wall or floor of a building) or concealed in a wardrobe, it is quite well protected and invisible at first sight.

4. The safe under a bed

A typical floor safe hidden in the place we consider most secure - our bedroom. It can be in the form of a box or cylinder (in which case cash or documents are usually stored). However, keep in mind that locating a safe under the bed may be as safe as it is inconvenient for everyday use. Do not place it there if you want to reach it frequently. In that case, a wardrobe or a wardrobe may be a better location.

5. The safe in a drawer

A rather risky place, especially if a small low-security box is simply placed in a drawer without additional anchorage. A burglar may simply take it with him (and even fitting it into the drawer alone may not be enough). Placing a safe in a drawer is therefore only a way of securing its contents from household members, but this is not enough to protect against a thief.

Is it worth installing a safe in a place that a burglar would think of first to search? Everything depends on its security class. If we mount the safe in the wall or anchor it in the wall behind the back of the wardrobe, then even though it will be in an easy to guess place, it will still be secured enough. We also do not always have other options (it is difficult to imagine placing the boss's private safe outside his office). However, it is always worth considering changing the most typical location of the device to one that may be less obvious to a thief or considering having more than one safe.
