Thinking about buying a safe for your home? A furniture safe is a good option. It is not difficult to install and is easy to conceal. Or would you prefer a large armoured cupboard to hold all your valuables? Choosing a home safe is not such a simple task. Before you decide on the right model, check out the types of safes and where they are best installed.
Why buy a home safe?
Some people think that a safe is an item that is only reserved for rich people. However, the truth is that virtually everyone should have an armoured safe deposit box at home in which to store valuables.
Surely you have important documents at home such as:
● a deed,
● an insurance policy,
● school diplomas,
● securities,
● civil status records,
● contracts, e.g. leases,
● invoices
or commemorative photographs.
Do you want to store all those documents safely? Buy a furniture safe, for example. You can assemble it yourself. A small model will fit into any wardrobe. You will store all your important writings in one place and won't have to worry about them being damaged by children or lost.
You can also keep jewellery, cash or storage media in your home safe. If you have children at home, a safe deposit box can also be used to store medicines and drugs. Your pharmaceuticals will be secure in the safe.
Types and models of safes
You will find many different types of safes on the market. Before buying one, consider what you need the armoured safe for. If you have a firearms licence, choose a model with special gun holders and ammunition shelves. Pistols can be stored in smaller safes. If you have a rifle or an assault rifle, buy a larger cabinet with multiple gun slots.
Home safes can be small so you can easily store them in a cupboard. Models mounted into a wall are also popular. Such safes are also easy to conceal. Few people expect that an armoured cache can be hidden behind a painting or mirror.
If you need to store more valuable items, such as family heirlooms, stamp and coin collections or works of art, buy a large armoured cabinet. You will be able to fit all your items in there, along with cash and jewellery.
Or do you want to display your antiques and works of art? In this case, you might be interested in an armoured display case made of toughened glass. Such a special cabinet also has a burglary-resistance certificate, so you don't have to worry about the cabinet being broken.
When choosing a safe, it is worth considering the type of lockable door. Models that have internal hinges can only be opened 90°. External hinges, on the other hand, allow the door to open 180°. If you need more space and convenience, choose external hinges.
Furniture safe – installation is easier than you think
Wondering how to install a furniture safe? First of all, think about where you are going to install it. It's a good idea if it's a hard-to-reach point, such as the top shelf of a wardrobe.
The safe must not be conspicuous. When you open the wardrobe door, the armoured box should not be the first thing you see. Place the safe in an alcove or in the furthest corner.
However, the use of the safe should be convenient. Mount the safe so that you can freely open the lock. If you have chosen the security feature of a traditional lock with a dial, you need to be able to see the entire dial clearly when dialing the cipher.
Putting items into the safe should not be a problem. Ensure that the door opens freely. Before buying, consider whether external hinges would be better in your case or whether it might be better to order internal hinges.
Have you already chosen a furniture safe? The assembly should be done with special anchors and expander connectors. It is a good idea to attach the safe to the fixed elements of the building, i.e. to the wall. You can remove a part of the back panel of the locker and anchor the safe to the wall in this way. Remember not to drill additional holes in the safe, as you will lose your guarantee and the security certificate will no longer be valid.

How do you install a wall safe?
Have you managed to set up and install a furniture safe yourself? Installing a wall model is unfortunately not that simple. You will need professionals to carry out this operation.
The installation of a wall safe is best planned during the design stage of your home. However, if you want to install the safe in an existing building, you will need to expect to spend several hours drilling a hole and anchoring the safe.
The hole in the wall should be about 10-15 cm larger than the dimensions of the safe. Once the safe box is anchored in the wall, it is sufficient to pour cement into the free space. In addition, you can armour the concrete with metal bars. Keep in mind that you won't be able to use the safe for a few days, as the mortar needs to dry and harden.
Now that you know what types of armoured safes there are and how to install a furniture safe and a wall safe, there is nothing left to do but order the right model. Order a safe today and ensure peace of mind for you and your family.
