A wall safe is a type of safe that is mounted in the wall of a building. Such safes are suitable for storing valuables, firearms, ammunition and small amounts of money, less often documents. Let's take a look at this type of product.

What advantages do wall safes have?
Space saving

A wall safe does not take up additional floor or desk space, which is important in small rooms or in places where order and aesthetics need to be maintained. At the same time, the safe itself does not have to be compact at all, there are models of considerable size, which can hide quite a lot of items.

Discretion

A wall safe can be easily hidden behind a painting, mirror, furniture or other interior design element. This prevents it from attracting unwanted attention. If you want no one to know about the safe, then embedding it in the wall can be a good solution.

What disadvantages do wall safes have?
Protection against fire

Contrary to popular belief, wall safes do not provide protection for items against fire. The design of the body excludes the use of a layer of thermal insulation, hence no wall safe has a fire resistance rating.

Protection against burglary

Wall safes are inherently lighter devices than free-standing safes, in the construction of which the main emphasis is placed on the door. In view of this, the highest burglary resistance class for this category of safes is class I according to EN 1143-1. There are also safes that are noticeably lighter than their freestanding counterparts. Removing a wall-mounted safe is not easy, but relatively simpler than pulling a much heavier free-standing model from the floor.

What to look for when buying wall safes?

If you have considered the above arguments and a wall safe is the security you need, let's think over about how wall safes play out.

Size and capacity

As I mentioned above, a wall safe can be of various sizes. However, the key dimension is the depth, which is a direct result of the thickness of the wall into which the safe is to be built. The deepest safes allow you to comfortably store items of the size of a binder. Height and width, however, are already arbitrary. The larger the wall safe will be, the greater the number of shelves.

Type of lock

Wall-mounted safes, like their freestanding counterparts, can be locked in several ways. The type of lock used does not affect the security, rather the way you will use the device. You can find a detailed distinction between locks in another article. In short: the standard solution is a key lock, but you can also choose between a mechanical and an electronic combination lock. It is worth noting here that with wall-mounted safes, the locks do not stand out from the door panel, they are flush, so you can cover up a wall safe with a painting, mirror, etc..

Summary

There are circumstances in which wall safes, like floor safes, are the optimal solution. If you don't have the space in your home, or alternatively, you have several safes and this wall safe will be only one of the elements of protection, there are models available with a variety of features, among which you are sure to find the right one for you and equipped as it suits you best. There are many of these products, so if you will not be able to choose any among the available models – contact us to specify your needs and work out the most suitable offer.
