Furnishing your home? Don't forget the safe

Furnishing your home? Don't forget the safe
Security at home
20 October 2021

The home safe is increasingly becoming a standard piece of property equipment. It is useful when you want to protect yourself against theft of valuable items, documents, works of art or even weapons. However, it is worth remembering that some types of safes require planning a place for them already at the stage of interior design.

Why a safe at home?

Many people associate it with film frames that show a secret hiding place behind a painting in a millionaire's mansion. In reality, such security has little to do with the aforementioned vision. It is rarely used to store cash. It is more often used to protect, for example, personal documents that can be used by thieves to commit financial fraud. It is also used to keep keys and data carriers which should not fall into the wrong hands, family and personal souvenirs as well as valuable and collector's items. It is also worth mentioning that a safe is indispensable if you own a weapon, and it is often needed for property insurance. It can be purchased at any stage of furnishing a flat, but it is best to plan its placement while designing the interior.

Which safe to choose?

The choice of the right safe depends primarily on its intended content. The more valuable it is, the higher resistance class we have to choose. Security features include digital and mechanical locks, but there are also additional safeguards such as an electronic time lock. We can choose from wall safes, floor safes, furniture safes and free-standing safes with the possibility of anchoring in the floor. In the case of the first two, you need to think carefully about their location, as they need to be anchored in a partition wall or floor and then masked. For this purpose, a special recess must be prepared during the construction phase, so it would be best if this was done before the final interior finishing in order to avoid additional renovation work. Wall- and floor-mounted safes are usually boxes, but some models can also be cylindrical. Their protection class against burglary is usually S1, S2 and class I.

More flexibility is offered by furniture safes, which can be placed in an existing interior. They are fixed to the floor or to the vertical walls of ready-made furniture. The advantage is that they can also be easily hidden in cupboards or desks and there is a wide choice of sizes and fittings.

Where to place the safe?

A safe is usually placed in a discreet place that is accessible only to family members. A suitable room for this purpose would be a bedroom or a private study. On the other hand, if you want a unique design matching the interior décor, you can choose a model from the exclusive ArtDesign line. This kind of product is distinguished by an ornament with an artistic motif, thanks to which it will perfectly harmonise with works of art. The highest level of aesthetics and design proposed by the designers is also characteristic of the Signature Safes line. These are models made of the highest quality materials adapted to the character of the owner, the items stored and their location.

A decision for years

Choosing the right safe and its location should be approached with great caution. This is because it will be a decision for years. This is not only due to the longevity and long guarantee of this device, but also due to the way it is installed, which requires anchoring. Afterwards, the safe is difficult to move and, in some cases, there is a risk that its structure will be damaged and the certificate will be lost.
