Security at home
8 April 2022

Many of us still keep money at home. And it's not just older people. Some don't trust banks and prefer to take care of their cash themselves. This raises the question of how to find an effective and secure money locker at home? It seems obvious to purchase a good quality, certified safe. Every year, more and more people decide to buy an armoured safe deposit box. However, not everyone is yet convinced of such an investment. In this article you will find out why a safe is safer than other secret stashes in the house.

Where do Poles keep their money?

"Rzeczpospolita" reports that according to a survey conducted in May 2021, as many as 25 % of Poles keep their savings at home and believe that a money locker is a safe solution. However, most people choose to keep their money in the bank on a personal account, savings account or on deposit.

There is nothing wrong with keeping money at home as long as it is well secured. However, the steady increase in burglaries in flats and houses shows that lockers at home are not the best place to keep cash. Those with a safe can rest easy and feel safe.

The safe as the best and safest money deposit box in the house

Some people don't have a safe and then the question becomes, "Where do I keep my money if I haven't bought an armoured safe deposit box yet?" If you keep a large amount of cash at home, first of all you need to separate it and store it in several different places. The creativity of Poles knows no bounds and they also choose as a safe money stash these places:

● the inside of a wooden stepladder,
● the casing of a desktop computer,
● underneath frozen meat in the freezer,
● a shoe cupboard.

Some hiding places in the home may seem ridiculous, but if you don't have a safe, choose unusual and hard-to-reach places. Remember, though, that an armoured compartment is the best and safest place to store your money. Don't wait for a thief and ideally order a good quality safe today.

What security features does a home safe have?

The level of security depends primarily on the burglary resistance class of the safe. However, every safe has strong steel bolts and a thick plate to prevent the lock from being drilled open. In addition, some armoured safes have hinges on the inside to prevent them from being filed down and destroyed. However, it is worth noting that even damage to the door hinges does not allow you to get inside the safe.

Another security feature used in safes is that they can be permanently fixed to the wall or the floor. The sheer weight of armoured safes is also an effective protection. Large armoured cabinets are so heavy that they cannot be lifted with their contents. Some models are built into the wall.

Home money lockers with mechanical lock

A good money locker in the form of a safe should also have a certified lock. According to EN 1300, there are three classes of lock resistance to burglary: A, B and C. Home safes have class A locks, larger armoured cabinets have class B locks and bank vaults must have the best security and class C locks. Check both the class of the safe and the lock before you buy.

You'll find many different types of locks on the market to suit your specific requirements. Key locks are the standard, but you will need to have extra storage space for your keys. This lock is virtually trouble-free, but the problem arises when the key is lost or damaged.

A secure solution is mechanical security with a traditional knob. It is worth noting, however, that unscrewing the cipher requires precision. This lock will not appeal to people who are impatient and have problems with hand trembling.

Electronic locks offer a high level of security. Among them, you can distinguish security with a numeric keypad. It is convenient and easy to use, but you need to be careful that no one suspects the cipher when opening the safe.

Biometric locks with a fingerprint are convenient, but it should be remembered that even slight soiling of the reader or skin will result in inaccessibility to the safe. Such locks are also not recommended for people who work with grease and oil.

Modern locks that can be opened with a smartphone are becoming increasingly popular. Thanks to bluetooth technology, you can open the safe remotely. The smartphone also allows you to assign access to the safe deposit box to any person in real time. Choose this solution if you like technological innovations and value convenience.

The old saying goes: "A wise Pole after the event". However, it is not worth playing with fate and hoping that a robber will not find cash hidden behind clothes in a wardrobe. A home safe is the best place to keep your money and it is worth spending some of your savings on it, so that the rest is secure.
