Security at home

It is said that the only piece of jewellery that befits a man is a watch. Watch collecting is becoming popular not only among the most wealthy people. A watch is a good gift not only for a man but also for a woman, and buying the most valuable ones is a promising investment for the future. If you are a collector, this article is for you.

What kind of watch safe should it be?

Let's start with the basics, close your eyes for a moment and imagine a watch safe. Intuitively, the eyes of your imagination will show a safe slightly different from what the search engine suggests. Watches can of course be kept in a classic steel and concrete device, but is it acceptable for a work of art such as a watch to rest on a powder-coated shelf?

So it is not without reason that for the storage of valuables, including watches of course, we most often make bespoke safes. Such a product includes a base safe, whose security class we adapt to the value of the stored items, equipped according to the customer's requirements. The ability to make a safe exactly as you need is our greatest asset.

Let's take a look at the components that make up a watch safe, one by one.

Base safe

Security class

This is really the only element that is created in the factory during the production of a bespoke safe. At this stage you need to determine more or less: what height your safe should be, what external dimensions will be optimal, how much space you need to have in it, which electronic lock will be most suitable and the most important thing: what security class the safe should have. It will come as no surprise that we most recommend safes with security classes III, IV and V according to EN 1143-1, in which you can safely keep not only watches, but also jewellery or cash. With the burglary resistance class, the weight of the safe also increases, which is of fundamental importance for the security of your collection.

Lacquering

As standard, each safe is painted with a powder-coated structure. However, such workmanship is not particularly spectacular and, unless you plan to hide the safe in built-in furniture, it is worth ensuring that the exterior of your safe is a little nicer. There are several options, including a matt, semi-matte or even high-gloss lacquer, which will allow you to see through the safe's door. It's a beautiful solution, so if your safe will be standing in a prominent position, this finish will be very impressive.

Of course, you can choose any colour you like, we use the RAL palette.

Lock for the safe

The basic way to open any safe is to use a key. However, this type of lock is not only not very convenient but also cumbersome. In high-class safes, the key is several centimetres long, and from class IV onwards, the locks have to be two, which means you have to keep four keys of this length with you. Therefore, the most popular solution is an electronic lock. Numerous models from reputable German manufacturers are available, offering more or less advanced features such as emergency opening with a key, auditing of operations or number of users reaching several hundred. The electronic lock is the easiest way to open and close the safe and is also the most attractive, which is fundamental for the Signature Safes line. The electronic lock is also easy to operate insofar as no external power supply is needed, just a 9V battery, which should last 2-3 years.

Interior finish

Now that we have selected the external dimensions, parameters, class and lock, it is time to address the interior fittings of the safe. This is where things get a lot more interesting.

Furniture finishing

If we have assumed that the exterior of your safe will look exclusive, it would be wrong to leave things any other way when it comes to the interior. Here there are countless combinations of styles, materials and compositions to choose from. You can incorporate natural wood, veneer, but also more exotic material in the safe. The jewellery drawers can be pulled out either manually or automatically, and the internal dividers for the precigers can be lined with alcantara. We will make the drawer fronts for you in gloss or semi-matte. In addition to watches and jewellery, you can also store documents or cash in the safe, so a free space or a separately lockable electronic vault, also made of wood, will not hurt. You define the dimensions of the drawer or any other interior element by yourself. There are plenty of options.

Watch storage devices

Among the most beautiful and valuable watches, most are those without batteries, whose operation is based on a mechanism set in motion by the natural movements of the wearer's body. If you have one such watch, this is not a problem, but if you have more than one watch, keeping them motionless for long periods of time causes the mechanism to stop. For storing mechanical watches, therefore, there are watch winders, devices that set the watches in motion at predefined intervals. Such devices can be incorporated into built-in furniture. There are watch winders that are built into each other independently, but there are also prefabricated modules of different height that can be inserted into a safe as a whole.
