Security at home

If you want to provide security for documents, valuables or firearms in your home but have limited space, a wall safe may be a good choice for you. Let's take a closer look at wall safes.

How is a wall safe constructed?

Wall safes are constructed differently from classic free-standing safes. The construction of such a safe is adapted to be walled in, so the main resistance to burglary of this type of product depends mainly on the door, while the body is concealed on all sides. The wall safe has no visible hinges, which are concealed inside the body, and the locking hardware (which may be a key lock or electronic lock) does not protrude from the door panel.

Which wall safe to choose?

While floor safes come in literally several sizes, wall-mounted safes are numerous and varied. Wall safes are available in a range of sizes, from the really compact to the quite substantial. The range includes models with a capacity to hold valuables or other valuable items, but also documents. There are really quite a lot of these safes, they are available in a wide price range and you are sure to find products to suit your preferences. However, if you can't make up your mind, our advisors will be happy to help you create a list of the most optimal models.

Who is a wall safe for?

Wall safes are used in a number of applications. Such safes, as we discussed in the first paragraph, have several features that give them an advantage over free-standing safes. By definition, a wall safe is a concealed product, invisible to the casual observer at first glance. If discretion is important to you and outsiders frequent your home, a wall safe is a good idea. You don't have to worry about storing weapons, as the high resistance class is confirmed by the relevant certificates visible on the inside of the door. You can also store jewellery and a bit of cash in such a safe.

When not to choose a wall safe?

There are circumstances in which choosing a wall-mounted safe is not the best idea. Wall safes do not and cannot have a fireproof rating, so if you want to keep deeds, securities or other important documents in the safe, it is worth considering freestanding fireproof models for at least 30 minutes. A guarantee of fire resistance can save your skin, especially as fires are more common than burglaries. The second reason why you should avoid wall-mounted safes is the burglary resistance class, which for this type of product is limited to class I according to EN 1134-1. This is a good class, ensuring the security of valuable items, but if you are planning to secure items of really high value, larger cash, precious metals or watches, we would rather recommend safes with higher classes, and these are free-standing models.

How do I prepare for installation?

Wall safes are built into the wall; therefore, once you have chosen your preferred model, it's time to take care of the installation location. Choose a supporting wall which is up to 35 cm thick, as the shallowest safe is 217 mm deep. Make sure that there are no electrical or water installations in the area. Choose a trustworthy team who will drill a suitable hole in the wall for you. Remember to be discreet: the fewer people who know about the fact that you have a safe, the better. The safe itself will present a serious challenge to a burglar, but secure habits are just as important as the device itself.
